Jun. 5 – Hong Kong-based firm, Political & Economic Risk Consultancy, has come out with their annual report on the effectiveness of Asia’s bureaucrats, with both Chinese and Indian civil servants faring poorly among the twelve countries surveyed.
Singapore came out on top, followed by Hong Kong in second place and Thailand a surprising third. The poll, which surveyed 1,274 expatriates living throughout the region, gave Singapore’s civil servants the highest ranking.
The report said that during normal times, when Singapore’s system is not stress related it operates very well but also added that said that ehen mistakes are made, the same civil service tends to cloud transparency and prevent finger pointing.
China slipped to ninth, down two places, while India propped up the table last in twelfth. The report noted that, “working with India’s civil servants is a painful process.”
