Jan. 15 – The Sundarban islands spanning off the east Indian coast in the Ganges River Delta to Bangladesh are sinking.
The effects of global warming, cyclones and rising sea levels are threatening the livelihood of more than four million people and beginning to destroy one of the world’s largest mangrove ecosystems.
Photographer Peter Caton who has worked with organizations such as Alliance, Marie Stopes, Save the Children, CARE, Greenpeace and the Red Cross and whose professional work is dedicated to capturing social and environmental issues, is displaying his work on the islands at Oxo Tower Wharf in London from January 14 to 21.
The Guardian newspaper has a flash series of his striking photographs underlining the threat the islands face here.
