China Launches Air Defense Exercise

Photo: XinhuaAug. 4 – China’s military began a major five-day air defense exercise on Tuesday in seven cities across the country’s eastern provinces of Henan and Shandong.

The operation, code named “Vanguard-2010,” includes more than 12,000 troops and over 100 aircraft of seven different types, in addition to air defense and artillery units.

State-run media announced that the exercise will be broken into two phases – with the first phase, scheduled from Tuesday to Thursday, featuring emergency evacuations, war planning, reconnaissance, early warning activities, surface-to-air attacks, and evacuations of command posts. The second phase, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, will focus on testing the ability of China’s air defense troops in fighting enemy air units in a “complicated electromagnetic environment.”

The Chinese air defense exercise comes a week after the United States and South Korea completed a series of joint naval exercises off the eastern coast of Korea involving an American nuclear-powered supercarrier, the USS Washington, and the F-22 Raptor, considered the world’s most advanced aircraft. The U.S.-South Korea exercise was originally planned to take place on the Yellow Sea, off the Korean Peninsula’s western coast, but was changed after strong protests from Beijing.

China’s territorial claims over the majority of the South China Sea have also been a historically hot topic between Beijing and its Southeast Asian neighbors, who also lay claim to portions of the sea.

I think the USA and South Korea should have just gone ahead and held their exercises in the Yellow Sea, outside of China’s territorial waters. The bully (China) should be told off right now. Otherwise, it will only encourage them to make more unreasonable demands in future. Not that China’s behaviour was unexpected to me. As they get econmically less poor and militarily stronger, they are going to flex their muscles further. It is up to the US, Russia, Japan, South Korea, India, Australia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Mongolia and others to make sure they don’t bully and rob other smaller less powerful countries.

    CARLOS:

Are you from the US propaganda department?
It is the Western powers and the US that goes around the globe robbing and killing inocent people.look at all the war and misery in Iraq and afganistan to begin with. Can you explain why they are there?
China is the victim of all these bullies throughout the last 200 years!
Can you brush up on your history before you comment here please! You really think a few military exercises can scare China?
It is the Koreans that will suffer most if war broke out over a planned US false flag incident from the sinking of the Cheonan.
Wait and see how the eventual facts will bring down South Korean government!Even their people are not convinced if was commited by PRNK.

  3. Carlos says:

    To ENLAND :

The PROPAGANDA DEPT. exists only in China, a ruthless dictatorship. We don’t have any such departments in India. We talk openly and freely here against our own politicians. We have a FREE PRESS here. You probably will never understand what that means having NEVER EVER had one.
China should not have felt threatened by joint US-South Korea drills, but they did :-) The bully apparently gets nervous easily :-)
The link up of countries I mentioned should also include Indonesia. I strongly advocate a tie-up between those countries to take on China to prevent China from bullying other smaller and weaker countries. I’ll name the countries again for you : The US, Russia, Japan, South Korea, India , Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Taiwan, Mongolia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, etc, etc, etc.
Your denials about China being the victim and not the bully does not cut any ice with me. Maybe, you are used to voicing such inanities in your country :-)

  4. ENGLAND says:

    To CARLOS

Oh you are from tha Indian propaganda department or from the many Anti China media dept in India!
I live in England for 40 years so I know what a free press is! I also know how a lot of information about China is not factual but based upon biased views of people who control the media.

Not feel threatened when heavily armed military forces playing outside your front door??Would India allow Pakistan’s military to exercise next to Delhi?
In that case why does the Indian press always play up the Chinese threat? Obviously your free press have implanted so much misinformation about China.
India and China is a huge country with vast population and territory to protect!
A strong military is essential for both countries! Do you not agree? Your logic of linking up countries against China amounts to bullying don’t you think?
Is that how India likes to be treated?

Free press and democracy in India does’nt give confidence from an outsider’s view! Look at the “CORRUPTION”in India.Rotten to the core in every part of society!Nothing gets done without back handers.
I’ve travelled to India 2 years ago and found the local people to be very nice and friendly so I was surprised by your outburst here!
Only 1 border war in 4000+ years of history is not bad!
maybe India and China can be friends and contribute to a better tomorrow for all its citizens!
That is my dream for the future!

    To ENLAND :

    1) I speak for myself. I do not represent any department, propaganda or otherwise.
    2) Pakistan carries out exercises right next door to India, sometimes jointly with China. It doesn’t perturb India. We carry out our own mock war games whenever we need to.
    3) Forming a group to counter China DOES NOT amount to bullying China :-) The group (if formed) is only there to ensure that China does not bully other smaller, weaker, more pacific countries.
    4) I don’t agree that China gets a bad press. On the contrary, I feel that the West has back pedalled criticism of China because of commercial interests.
    5) Corruption is rampant in India, agreed. But, because of our free press it is at least exposed. Democracy actually helps lessen corruption. But, since force is ruled out, it takes time. And, since everything is exposed, it seems worse than it actually is. An authoritarian society hides its failings.
    6) As regards India and China being friends, it takes two hands to clap. India is not interested in fighting wars. We would love to watch our Bollywood movies, play cricket and generally enjoy life :-) Unfortunately, China and her client state Pakistan have a different agenda. So we are forced to arm.
    7) Finally, I have nothing against the Chinese people in general. They are hardworking, decent people. Its the Chinese Govt (CPP+PLA) that I talk against. They not only persecute their own people (Falun Gong) but behave like tyrants in Tibet, Xinjiang and elsewhere. Further, they try to grab territory belonging (or at least disputed) to others, through force.
I have said, in brief, almost all that I wanted to say. Unless something new is brought up, consider this my last post on this topic.
    Cheers,
    Carlos de Souza.

  6. Daniel says:

    To Carlos

I think you are among those who are biasly against Chinese, the Chinese Government & their nation. China was attacked by the west with parts of her territories colonized by the west, so what have you to say about that ?

The west talk so much about human rights & freedom & yet they are the ones who introduce or started slavery & slave trade ?

The American & their western counterpart have always under the pretex of protecting peace & freedom attacked other nations like Iraq & Afangistan where home, schools, hospitals & buidling were senselessly destroyed & innocent victims killed or wounded in the cross fire, but did the American or the west have any compassion for those innocent victims ? they didn’t even mentioned about any compensation !

They talk & preach so much about human rights but what they are talking about is actually American rights, American might & western power because might is right !

I wish China will rise up even greater & faster so that other like minded person like youself would not dare cross or bully the Chinese again.

We Chinese are a peacful race & country but when war is force on us or if we are bully we will respond forcefully in ways we deemed fit because we will never be backward, poor or be bullied again.

Any potential aggressor or trouber maker will be dealt with with such severity that they can no longer be a threat or a trouble maker again.

I can assuer that like minded person like youself should be given a taste of your own medicine so that you will know how bitter it is at the receiving end, in short you must be taught a hard lesson to be fair & look at things objectively instead of interferring in our affairs.

Maybe you should live in a country where your nation has been bullied & suppressed by other countries for many years & yet struggling hard to break away from nationwide poverty & weakness both economically & militarily
