China’s Takeover Bid for Mongolian Coal-Producer Expected to Fail

It is expected that the state-owned Aluminium Corp of China Ltd, or Chalco, will drop its takeover bid for Mongolia’s coal-producer SouthGobi Resources Ltd due to fierce resistance from the Mongolian government. Mongolia Enthrones Its Dalai Lama

Mongolia has confirmed the ninth Bogd Jebttsundamba Khutughtus in a ceremony at the Gandantegchinlin Monastery in Ulaanbaatar. As the spiritual leader of Mongolian Buddhism, the ninth Bogd is the equivalent of the Dalai Lama in Tibet, although ranking below him in title. Continue reading

Report: Emerging Asia Well Placed to Handle Volatile Global Economy

Nov. 23 – Among emerging Asian countries, China, India, and Indonesia appear to be in a fairly strong position to withstand the fallout from the volatile global economy while Malaysia, Mongolia and Thailand seem too vulnerable to cope with an external shock, Fitch Ratings said in a report released this week.
